Brazilian Blowout Review

On Friday, I decided to see what all of the hype about Brazilian Blowouts was, so got one for myself. I have naturally wavy hair, but not "cute" wavy. It looks horrid if I don't straighten it. I have done so much damage to my hair by straightening it everyday and was looking for a solution.

When I got to the salon, my stylist told me all about the treatment. It is essentially a "straight" perm. She started by shampooing my hair twice to get rid of any residue from styling products. Afterwards, she coated my hair with the actual Brazilian Blowout treatment. This part took about a half hour. It didn't seem like a lot of product, but she did coat all of my hair with about 2-3 capfuls. She then proceeded to blow dry my hair. This took about 15 minutes. After my hair was completely dry, she flat-ironed my hair. It looked amazing after this! I was bummed when she told me she was going to wash my hair- it looked too pretty to wash! She dried my hair one more time and styled it.

After seeing how straight it looked after it was flat-ironed compared to how straight it looked after it was shampooed, I was kind of disappointed. Now don't get me wrong, my hair was straight, just not pin straight like I expected it to be.

The real test would come after the first time washing my hair. Right after I got out of the shower, my hair seemed more straight than usual, so I had high hopes. I blow dried my hair with a big round brush and it actually looked pretty good considering I didn't use a flat iron. It was so soft! Later in the day, I noticed my hair looked more oily than usual, which isn't good since I only wash my hair every other day. I put some dry shampoo in my hair to fix the problem. This morning, my hair looked alright since I put in the dry shampoo, but it was pretty limp and had a few kinks in it. It looks like it does when I half ass straighten my hair and don't take the time to make it all perfectly pin straight. I am still not sure whether or not it's okay to use a flatiron to fix this issue (but isn't the point of getting BB to not have to flatiron?)

Overall I give my experience so far a 6.5. I do notice a difference, just not as extreme as I thought it would be according to others' reviews. The thing I liked best about it is that it improved the texture of my hair. The treatment itself was $200.00 and I had a coupon for $20.00 (this is on the lower end of Brazilian Blowouts). I did buy the shampoo as recommended since it supposedly makes it last longer (we'll see about that). BB's last about 3-4 months with the shampoo, so I'll be sure to update you throughout my journey!

  1. I think it looks great! I was told that for naturally curly/wavy haired girls, a Brazilian blowout makes flat ironing much easier and your straightening will look much nicer.
I also have naturally wavy/curly hair and have considered getting a BB but can't bring myself to do it! Maybe when the day comes when I have a baby and less time to spend on my hair I'll get one... This post was super helpful and I'm so glad that you were able to share your experience! Please keep us updated :)

  3. I hope it worked out better for you. $200.00 is a little expensive for hair treatment. To be honest, I don't see much difference. Thanks for the review

  4. I really, really want to try this! In fact, I think I am going to blog about it to see what others' experiences have been. But I think yours looks great and I definitely see the difference!

  6. Your hair looks amazing!! I'm curious though, how long did you wait until you washed your hair after the stylist finished it? I've had this done and my process was different from yours. My hair was washed dried, keratin was applied, hair was straightened, and then I couldn't wash my hair for three days. On the third day, I went back to the salon, they washed and styled/straightened it and gave me shampoo and conditioner to use.

  7. PS...you can def use a flat iron on it. Just use a heat protectent without sulfates.

  8. i've been wanting to get one, but it's pricey, so i've been holding off.

i think it definitely looks sooo much prettier, but i agree i thought it would be straighter!!

  9. I totally notice a difference. I think it looks great! You were probably looking for more of a wash and go solution like I was with the digital perm. Wish there was something that easy.

  10. Jordyn- I got it done on Friday and washed on Sunday (but my stylist said there was no wait time like other treatments).

  11. That's awesome!! If you happen to know what brand treatment they used, can you let me know? By the third day my hair was so gross...it was a flat greasy mess...which is hard to deal with when you have to go to work, and can't put your hair in a ponytail or anything!! I want to try the one you did. I also found that it didn't really make my hair straight...it just made it much smoother and less frizz prone. If I straighten it, it stays straight regardless of humidity.

  12. I think your hair looks great. I would probably feel the same as you though, after spending all that $$$ I'd expect better results. My cousin had her hair Japanese straightened and she still has to use a straightner on it. Beware of the pool too- she went in the pool last week and now it's super wavy. Apparently, you aren't supposed to get chlorine on your hair.

P.S Thanks for the comment and the well wishes!

  13. i love your hair, it looks so healthy. I have wavy hair and I get so sick of straightening it because it dries my hair out so much. I hope it works for you!

  14. your hair looks great, but she dried, straightened and then washed? I'm thinking about getting that done too... my hair is wavy as well

  15. Just found your blog - love your style! Thanks for this review - I REALLY want to get this done, because I have fairly curly hair, but I am a little reluctant. I know it won't be a miracle, but I'm hoping it takes the frizziness down a bit. I think yours looks GREAT, though! I can definitely tell the difference. I'm worried about my hair feeling flat - did you feel like you lost some volume?
